Thomas A. Vance, Ph.D., is a mental health clinician providing culturally specific therapeutic care. Dr. Vance is trained in several evidence-based therapies to assist in the management of anxiety, mood disorders, behavioral symptoms, and sexual/gender concerns. Dr. Vance's multicultural training allows him to develop a tailored treatment plan using an intersectional framework. This framework assists in understanding how aspects of one's identities (e.g., race, gender, class, sexuality, ability, and others) combine in creating life stressors. In addition to Dr. Vance's broad generalist training and work with the Black/African Community, he is highly skilled in exploring sexuality and sexual concerns. These concerns are explored through sexual and gender history, gender identity evaluations, collaborative care for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, and family support for parents of gender-expansive children and adolescents. Dr. Vance received his PhD in counseling psychology from The University of Akron. During his training, he completed his pre-doctoral internship at Boston University School of Medicine, specifically at The Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology. Additionally, Dr. Vance completed a clinical and research postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) at the Columbia Gender Identity Program. He also completed a psychology teaching postdoctoral fellowship at The New School for Social Research in the department of psychology, teaching undergraduate and graduate students psychotherapy approaches and multicultural psychology.
