Dr. Burrows is a registered psychologist, with a private practice in British Columbia. In addition to his practice, Dr. Burrows has experience working in a range of settings including hospitals, schools and community mental health.
His current practice has a focus on PTSD and Occupational Stress Injuries, notably with First Responders. In addition he has worked with adults, youth/children and families, with clinical specializations in anxiety, depression, brain injury, chronic pain and developmental challenges. His work with children and youth has focused upon the assessment and treatment of learning and behavioural challenges, with specializations in the area of Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and behavioural disorders.
His therapeutic approach is informed by Humanistic theory, with emphasis upon Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques, desensitization self-care skill development and psycho-education. He believes that the therapeutic relationship is the central to effectiveness of therapy.
Clients can be seen in office, or via OnCall Health, a secured online service.
He has been a consultant and presenter to a range of organizations and professions, at provincial and national levels. He is a former president of the Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba, and currently sits as chairman of the board for Vancouver Island Mental Health Society.
Dr. Burrows has supervised provisional psychologists and graduate students, and has been a faculty member or instructor at undergraduate and graduate levels with the University of Alberta, City University of Seattle, and College of New Caledonia.
