Shannon Fowler first became interested in psychology while completing her undergraduate degree at Eastern Michigan University where she helped a masters student with her thesis on eating behaviors and body image. She graduated with a B.S with a major in psychology and minor in nutrition. In 2007 she began the Clinical Psychology PhD program at University of Detroit Mercy. She began working with patients in the university psychology clinic in 2008 where she worked with a diverse population with different mental health issues. In 2010 she began her practicum training at Wayne State Family medicine center where she worked along physicians to better help them with their communication with their patients. In addition she also provided individual therapy and assessment to clinic patients. In 2013 she took her internship with the Alaska Psychology Internship Consortium. Her major rotation was in a primary care residency clinic where she developed and led a weight loss group as well as worked to start a palliative care clinic. In addition she continued to provide individual therapy and assessment to clinic patients. It was here that she had the opportunity to first gain knowledge on distance therapy techniques as well as providing therapy using a translator. Since graduating in 2014 Shannon has worked in outpatient mental health clinics in both Michigan and Virginia. She also has worked with Teladoc to provide distance therapy. She remains passionate about helping people to develop and achieve their goals. She has gained training in multiple forms of therapy and believes strongly in tailoring her approach to best suit the person and their goals for therapy.
