I like working with people who have had difficult circumstances in their lives. Whether the difficulties stem from childhood abuse, traumatic incidents, loss of loved ones or any other life situation that has caused pain, I find great satisfaction in helping people move beyond their past and becoming more satisfied with life. This especially applies to those of us who come from diverse backgrounds. Living in a culture which esteems some groups more than others causes much harm and we often need to work through the experience of being different from the majority in order to be happy. I have worked at university counseling centers, social service agencies and independent practice. I work from an integrative perspective, tailoring my interventions according to what works best with a particular client. I like to work with a variety of people including racial/ethnic minorities, GLBT, people of all sizes and those who are differently abled. I take a wholistic view of a person and often refer for adjunctive treatment if it would be helpful. This can include your physician, massage therapy, acupuncture and physical movement. I also work from a Health at Every Size perspective with all people, believing that no matter one's size, health behaviors can be improved.
