CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. CBT focuses on the way that a person's cognitions (i.e., thoughts), emotions, and behaviors are interconnected and therefore affect one another. The primary goal of the CBT therapist is to help the client discover that he/she is powerful and capable of choosing positive thoughts and behaviors.
