I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, in clinical private practice for 30 years. I obtained my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. I completed my doctoral internship at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. I have extensive experience doing psychotherapy and counseling with adults, children, and adolescents with a wide range of problems and concerns. I provide clinical supervision to Psychologists and other mental health professionals. I also provide clinical supervision to graduate students studying to become behavioral health professionals. I have written numerous professional articles, co-authored a book chapter on live supervision, and presented on a variety of clinical topics, with particular emphasis on components of effective psychotherapy and ethics. I participated as part of a professional Psychology delegation to Vietnam and Cambodia in 2006, and returned to both countries in 2008 to provide a guest lecture on Effective Psychotherapy at the Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia" I use a philosophy of treatment that is referred to as Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT), also referred to as Client-directed, Outcome-informed treatment (CDOI) and Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS). This treatment philosophy is based on more than 40 years of psychotherapy research which helps identify factors associated with change in treatment. In a Feedback Informed Treatment approach to treatment, the therapist partners with the client to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for achieving the change desired by the client. Ongoing, systematic feedback is obtained from the client regarding the effectiveness of the psychotherapy and the fit with the therapist.If client feedback indicates that a particular approach is not resulting in any positive change for the client, or there is not a good fit for a client , then other treatment approaches or options are sought.
