I am a licensed clinical psychologist and earned my doctorate in psychology in 1994 from DePaul University in Chicago. I have enjoyed working with adolescents, adults and elders in a variety of settings. I have been a staff psychologist at a VA Medical Center, a staff psychologist with a university counseling center and a supervising psychologist for a public school district. I have helped people navigate life challenges such as the loss of a loved one, life altering medical conditions, depression, military trauma, sexual trauma and other traumatic experiences. I have years of experience providing culturally informed services for diverse populations. I am a life member of the Association of Black Psychologists. I see counseling/therapy as an interactive dialogue that can stimulate reflection, growth and replenishment. I find it important to emphasize that the person is not the problem they are experiencing -- "The problem is the problem.” And within the person’s personal and cultural history are resources for solving problems and healing.
