In my 30+ years of practice as a pediatric psychologist I have found that clients and their families want to feel better and do better as quickly as possible. Through empirically based therapeutic programs I work with parents and children together to help them to forge a positive emotional relationship while at the same time helping parents learn the skills to effectively manage their child’s behavior. For young children I often use Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), a short-term behavioral approach to managing disruptive behaviors. I was trained in this treatment methodology by Dr. Steven Kurtz, an internationally recognized therapist and Global Trainer, and I am a certified PCIT therapist. When working with adolescents and young adults I encourage the use of active listening, problem solving, and cognitive behavioral methods to resolve problems. Sometimes psychological testing is necessary to better understand behavioral and learning problems and to provide effective interventions. My training in both school psychology and clinical psychology equips me to provide highly competent assistance in this area. In addition, I can work with other resources such as physicians, schools, and day care centers to provide families with the most complete services possible. After all these years I feel lucky to still be so passionate about this work.
