Michael Appelgren, PsyD, is licensed as a psychologist in New York (NY) and New Jersey (NJ) and a certified school psychologist in NJ and NY. He earned his BA, MA, and Ed.S. degrees from Seton Hall University. Dr. Appelgren received his doctoral training in school psychology with a concentration in cognitive-behavioral therapy and neuropsychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). He completed a predoctoral internship with the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission and Rutgers University. Dr. Appelgren has worked at a community counseling center in Scotch Plains, NJ, providing individual therapy, family and couples therapy, therapeutic visitations, suicide risk assessments, psychological evaluations, and treatment planning for clients from toddlerhood to adulthood. He has worked at the Child Mind Institute (CMI) in the Healthy Brain Network (HBN) conducting neuropsychological assessments with study participants ranging from children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Appelgren is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and holds a Diplomate from the American Board of School Neuropsychology. He has training in leadership and school administration (e.g., principal and supervisor). He has experience working with students in general education and special education from grades Pre-K to 12th in urban and suburban areas. He helped write a curriculum for an Executive Functioning class for middle school students. He has experience teaching as an adjunct professor in the graduate psychology department at Seton Hall University. Dr. Appelgren has experience presenting nationally. His research interest includes the “coming out” process and supporting sexual minority youth and the LGBTQIA+ community. His areas of expertise are neuropsychology, executive functioning, and topics related to non-binary/gender identity.
