In my practice I provide high quality, evidence-based services to help children, adolescents, and young adults with depression, anxiety, OCD, phobias, panic, and thoughts of death or suicide. I work to provide this care in a supportive, understanding, and collaborative manner.
I'm Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. I served for 18 years as Professor and Chief Psychologist at Northwestern. While there I directed the Child and Adolescent Mood Lab (CAMLab) and held appointments at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Prior to this I served for 14 years on the faculty of the University of Chicago, where I directed the Center for Cognitive Therapy and taught in the School of Social Service Administration.
I've been actively involved in education and clinical research for over 35 years. During this time I've published over 100 peer-reviewed publications and chapters, and have authored or edited 11 books on the treatment of anxiety, depression, and suicide. Scientific research, then, serves as a foundation for my care. I strive to bring the very latest, evidence-based care to my clinic. Over the years I've lectured internationally on children’s mental health and have served as a visiting professor at institutions in Europe and Asia.
As regards clinical credentials, I am board certified in Clinical Psychology (ABPP), Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (ABPP), and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (ACBT). I'm a Fellow of several orgnizations, including the American Psychological Association, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the Association for Psychological Science. I'm Past President of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. I'm currently active with APA and a number of non-profit community organizations.
