Dr. Lisa Potash is a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in Central Florida. She has twenty years experience as an expert witness and forensic evaluator and has been approved to testify in civil, circuit, immigration and federal court. Areas of specialty include trauma related disorders, military and police psychology, health psychology, chronic pain, addictions, grief, neurological disorders and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Potash also has a small therapy practice located in Ormond Beach, Florida. Therapeutic orientation is largely existential as many come to therapy searching for a meaningful life. It is often uncomfortable asking for what we need and desire from others. We have been socialized to believe it is virtuous to live a life of service, putting other's needs before our own. This often results in poor self care, feelings of resentment and depression, which paradoxically hinders rather than helps relationships. Dr. Potash encourages patients to nurture the relationship they have with themselves. This may involve defining more effective personal boundaries and expectations. Identification of unhealthy coping strategies is accompanied by brainstorming more effective replacement behaviors. Many of us abandon the pleasurable activities of youth while overwhelmed with daily demands of survival. Returning to previously enjoyed passions or developing new interests can provide grounding activities for which to strengthen one's inner resources. Dr. Potash welcomes the opportunity to assist individuals to identify and pursue a meaningful life.
