I have a general adult psychotherapy practice where I see both individuals (ages 18+) and couples. ///
I work primarily — though not exclusively — from a psychodynamic/relational point of view. That means I help my clients identify, change, and heal from unhelpful patterns in their thinking, feeling, and ways of relating to themselves and others. I strive always to work with compassion, intelligence, and warmth and aim to have my clients leave our work together with a deeper sense of purpose and a stronger zest for life. ///
I enjoy working with college students and recent college graduates, supporting them as they emerge into adulthood. I work with them on a wide array of issues — depression, anxiety, low motivation, eating problems, sexuality, relationship difficulties, substance abuse, family-of-origin issues, career uncertainty, work-life balance, and general adjustment difficulties. ///
I also have a special interest in marital and family issues, especially the transition to parenthood and post-parenthood adjustment of women, men, and their relationships. (My dissertation was on the postpartum adjustment of fathers.) I see long term committed relationships and child rearing as two of the essential developmental challenges of adulthood, offering unique opportunities for growth, healing, and self-discovery. I see my work with parents as preventative in that I believe enormous psychological benefits come to children whose parents are whole and self-confident and whose parents’ relationships are loving and secure. ///
Recently, I have been pursuing a variety of continuing education opportunities in the end-of-life arena. My studies have included training to become an end-of-life doula, end-of-life ethical issues, and seminars on palliative care, working with dementia patients, and related matters. I am eager to extend my psychotherapy practice by offering my services to the dying and their loved ones.
