I studied psychology as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan and received my PsyD from GSAPP, at Rutgers University. My career began in community mental health. For 14 years I held a variety of clinical, supervisory and administrative roles in a community mental health center while also building a private practice. In my final position at the agency, I was the Associate Executive Director in charge of agency-wide training. Currently I work exclusively in my private practice, working with young adults, adults and seniors in short and long term therapy. My approach draws primarily from psychodynamic psychotherapy, relational therapy, mindfulness and mind-body practices. Depending on patients' needs, I incorporate aspects of CBT and DBT as needed. After 30 + years in private practice, I am comfortable with an eclectic approach that meets patients where they are. I believe my job is to provide a safe and supportive environment in which patients can identify, experience and change aspects of their lives that are causing pain, conflict, confusion or paralysis. Together we identify goals to be worked on and determine the best way to arrive at those goals. Sometimes goals are more diffuse, e.g. "I want to feel better", "I want to understand why I am so unhappy all of the time"; and, sometimes , they are more defined e.g. "I want to change jobs", " I want to leave my relationship but don't know how", or "I want to learn how to manage my anxiety". The journey toward these goals can be direct or circuitous depending on the complexity of the problem, personal/family history, current circumstances, finances, family dynamics. Outside referrals and resources are integrated into the treatment as indicated.
