Dr. Kathryn Wright, Psy.D. is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in WV and NC with over 20 years of experience, providing psychological services to adults, clinical supervision, and practice management. She understands that we must be grounded before we can fly; focusing on helping her clients to enhance strengths, build resources, and learn new coping skills before beginning to work on transforming the deeper issues and ultimately learning to thrive, not simply survive.
An EMDR Certified therapist of 13 years, she specializes in the assessment and treatment of adults with trauma, PTSD/Complex PTSD, dissociation, and anxiety disorders. She is also an EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training, working with therapists who wish to improve their EMDR skills and/or pursue EMDRIA certification in EMDR Therapy. Although her main theoretical lens is the Adaptive Information Processing Model, her work is informed by neurobiological perspectives on trauma, attachment theory, CBT, and humanistic/client-centered therapy.
Dr. Wright works with a wide variety of issues beyond trauma, including depression, relationship difficulties, job stress, low self-esteem, perfectionism, adult ADHD, work-life balance, the effects of cancer and chronic medical illness, phobias, motor vehicle accidents, spiritual, and multicultural concerns. She has extensive experience working with diverse populations and LGBTQ+ clients who have suffered from discrimination, intolerance and/or trauma.
A breast cancer survivor herself, Dr. Wright understands firsthand the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to health and wellness. She will work with you to develop a treatment plan that may include resources beyond the therapy room, such as stress-management practices like yoga, self-hypnosis and guided imagery, mindfulness and meditation. She strongly believes in the value of humor and humility, both within the therapeutic relationship and life in general.
