I have been a psychologist since 1972. I continue to work because I enjoy having the privilege of helping people make the changes they want to make and attain their goals. I believe that people enter therapy to learn how to handle relationships more effectively. Sometimes people struggle with their relationships with other people and sometimes people struggle with their relationships with themselves. Most people enter therapy believing that they need to do or believe something more or less or different than what they currently do or believe. Frequently, they discover that what is actually beneficial is different from what they had expected would be beneficial. After almost 50 years in my career, I continue to study new therapeutic approaches and ideas. When I entered graduate school, I knew I had a lot to learn about psychology. I did not realize that, all these years later, I still would have a lot to learn about psychology. Regarding my personal life, after 50 years of marriage, and after having children and grandchildren, I've learned some things about families. I still have a lot to learn, though, because people are complicated and sometimes being in relationships with people is complicated. I feel lucky to be in such an interesting career where I get to work with all types of clients.
