I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 23 years of experience. I work with adults either individually, as a couple, or as a family. The methods that I use are evidence-based. That is, I use treatment methods that have been established through research as effective. I treat depression, grief, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, relationship problems, and substance abuse. I help people make positive changes in their lives by enabling them to gain deeper self-understanding. While personal insight is essential, it's not enough. I also teach new tools for communication, stress management, conflict resolution, self-esteen and healthy relationships. We work together to gain insight into your strengths and barriers in order that you may live your life fully and richly. An overarching philosophy of mine is called positive psychology. That is, I believe that people inherently strive for health and wholeness and that everyone holds the answers that they need. I recognize your strengths and utilize them so that you can reach your goals. Specific treatment techniques that I use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), narrative therapy, psychodynamic and mindfulness. I am a feminist therapist which means that I view all forms of social injustice negatively impact mental health and wellbeing. I have a specialization in domestic violence and in helping women and men trying to decide if they want to leave an abusive relationship or helping them process the trauma and rebuild after they have left. Psychotherapy has been demonstrated to be highly effective but success will be enhanced by your active participation. Whatever reason you are seeking therapy, know that it takes courage and wisdom to take this step.
