I am a psychologist/psychoanalyst who has been in private practice for 35 years. I have written three books, several book chapters, and numerous articles and book reviews. My work is taught internationally and my last book has been translated into four languages. I am known for my observations of the therapist client relationship and focusing on how the therapist can constructively go beyond passive listening to interact effectively with the client. I give feedback and educate my clients on how to be more aware of what they are feeling and then how to accept, manage and express their feelings constructively. The first step in treatment is relieving painful symptoms that bring the client to therapy in the first place. The second step is discerning the source of what are often repeated difficulties and working to prevent future problems.
