I am a clinical psychologist and professor of psychology at Appalachian State University, with more than 15 years of teaching, supervision, and practice experience. Although I am a generalist by training and offer a wide range of science-based psychotherapy and assessment services, my primary specialization is in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety-related issues, including panic attacks, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessions and compulsions, and post-traumatic stress. I earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and completed a clinical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina/Department of Veteran Affairs Consortium in Charleston, SC, with a specialization in anxiety and traumatic stress. As a professor at Appalachian State University, I teach a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses, primarily focused on the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders and the use of science-based psychotherapies. I maintain an active research laboratory aimed at improving the assessment, prevention, and treatment of anxiety disorders, with a particular emphasis on how lifestyle behaviors, such as mindfulness and physical exercise, affect anxiety and quality of life. I have authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and 100 presentations at professional conferences.
