Dr. Joseph Walden is a newly licensed psychologist in the state of Florida who earned his doctorate degree from the Florida School of Professional Psychology in Tampa. He was trained as a generalist and can treat a wide range of psychiatric and behavioral concerns, including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, addiction, difficult transitions, and concerns with aging.
While Dr. Walden has been trained to treat a variety of concerns, he has developed a niche working with the military population. He is personally and professionally invested in the treatment of the military population. His father was a 23-year Army veteran and was the one who originally sparked his interest in the treatment of trauma. While working at the Bay Pines VAMC in St. Petersburg, Florida, he was trained and now is certified in the VA-approved evidence-based Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) designed specifically to treat PTSD. He also worked directly with veterans who were dually diagnosed with an alcohol/drug addiction and PTSD. While completing his post-doctoral fellowship at a private practice in Venice, FL, he has continued to gain experience in trauma treatment with a broader spectrum of traumas, including survivors of motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, domestic violence, sexual assault(s), and adult survivors of childhood abuse.
Dr. Walden works to be realistic and practical, and tailors all therapeutic interventions to the individual. He will use a collaborative, educational approach to help clients become their own therapists to ensure that all therapeutic gains are maintained in the future. He uses research-based interventions designed for the specific concerns that the individual presents and works to provide relief as quickly as possible.
