Dr. Venn has been provided psychological services since 1971. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1977 with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. He has been a military officer, served on the staff of a Fortune 500 Corporation, served on the staffs or faculties of seven Universities, served on the staffs of three state agencies in two states, owned and operated his own business for twenty-three years, and held a variety of state and federal contracts. He has retired from the correctional systems of two states: California and South Carolina. He has treated thousands of patients and has evaluated thousands of criminal defendants, juvenile delinquents, and convicted felons. He has testified under oath in hundreds of litigated proceedings. He is licensed to practice psychology in four states: California, South Carolina, Alabama and Maryland. He has been awarded Board certification in Clinical Psychology and in Forensic Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, which are the highest levels of recognition in those two fields. He has published original research articles in journals including Family Process, Psychological Reports, the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, and the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research. He has given numerous presentations at professional meetings, universities, hospitals, law offices, and other settings. His book -- Crime and Psychology: Foundations of Forensic Practice -- was published by Routledge in 2024. He has served on the boards of local and international organizations. In 2000 he consulted with actress Renee Zellweger on the performance that earned her an academy award nomination for best actress, and he helped write the script that won Best Screenplay Award at Cannes. In 2007 he introduced zydeco music to the monks of Mt. Saint-Michel.
