I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Georgia State University in 1972 and did my internship training at the Memphis VA Medical Center. I also served for two years as a psychologist in the Army. I was on staff at the Memphis VA Medical Center from 1972 to 1986, where I also was Director of the clinical psychology internship program and served as Assistant Chief, Psychology Service. I left the VA in 1986 to pursue full-time private practice. From 2001-2021, I was the Senior Affiliate at The Pilgrim Center, a non-sectarian counseling service I founded at First Congregational Church. In February, 2021, I relocated my practice to another mid-town Memphis location.
