I am a clinical psychologist practicing in Tysons Corner, Virginia and the Friendship Heights area of Northwest Washington, DC, and treat adolescents, adults, and couples. My approach is interactive, hopeful, and supportive. Some of my specialty areas include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, and adolescent distress (including parent/teenager communication). I work in a collaborative and flexible manner. I help clients to gain greater insight into their behaviors, thought patterns, and emotional reactions. As self-awareness develops, clients report an increased sense of control over their choices, improved self-worth and, as a result, more rewarding relationships and fulfilling lives.
I use psychodynamic/cognitive approaches, helping clients understand how their personal history along with current circumstances may be influencing their emotional lives, interpersonal relationships, and quality of life. I emphasize implementing new ways of interacting and thinking so that you may have more positive experiences in the 'here and now.'
I am committed to utilizing treatment approaches that research demonstrates work well for specific diagnoses.I have a particular specialty in developing healthy relationships, improving or ending unhealthy ones, the hook-up culture, gender identity issues, anxiety, emotional regulation issues, parenting and working with teenage girls. I recently wrote a book on anxiety, Be Calm-Proven Techniques to Stop Anxiety Now.
