Dr. Russell received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tulsa in 2009. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Oklahoma Forensic Center, a maximum security forensic hospital in Northeastern Oklahoma, in 2009. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Forensic Psychology through Texas Tech University and what was then Lubbock Regional MHMR Center in 2010. She worked as a Psychologist, and then Chief Psychologist, at North Texas State Hospital, providing evaluations and treatment to forensic psychiatric patients, and then at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, where she conducted Compensation and Pension examinations, and also provided psychological treatment to veterans. Dr. Russell was a contributing author to a textbook on forensic psychology, and has also co-authored a book chapter on predatory and affective violence, and has provided workshop presentations on violence risk assessment and competency to stand trial evaluations for the State of Texas Department of State Health Services. She has expertise in forensic evaluations, including: competency to stand trial, mental state at the time of the offense, dangerousness risk assessment (including sex offender risk assessment), and sentencing/mitigation evaluations.
Dr. Russell's specializes in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This treatment assists clients in identifying thinking patterns which are negatively impacting their feelings and behavior, and then in altering those thinking patterns to improve their lives. Dr. Russell works with clients to identify specific treatment modalities that are both evidenced-based (i.e., supported by scientific research) and a good fit with the client's personality and treatment needs.
