My overall therapy goals are to help her clients identify and address the barriers and stressors that interfere with their ability to lead productive and fulfilling lives. I utilize this overarching principle to address the various presenting needs of my clients from helping an individual cope with a primary medical illness to addressing perinatal mood and anxiety disorder to stressors associated with life transitions and interpersonal conflicts. I draw from several therapy approaches including cognitive behavioral, internal family systems, and interpersonal therapy as well as integrating hypnosis and relaxation based techniques into my practice in order to meet each individual’s needs.
My areas of specialization and interest include helping individuals address the emotional and behavioral aspects of their medical condition, supporting new parents through perinatal anxiety and mood disorders, identifying and modifying lifestyle behaviors that serve as risk factors for disease progression, and providing pre-surgical psychological evaluations for individuals considering bariatric surgery. In addition to her specialization in health and perinatal psychology, Dr. Kutner also has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and ADHD, utilizing both behavioral and cognitive strategies to improve executive functioning skills, social awareness, and interpersonal relationships.
