clinical psychologist, licensed in the States of New Jersey and New York. Dr. Meance is the president of The Multicultural Counseling and Testing Center (MCTC). She graduated from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a concentration on cultural competency. She treats clients of all cultures and is often called by agencies to provide culturally sensitive and competent therapeutic interventions as an independent consultant. Dr. Méance is also a journalist and a published author. Her most recent publication dates July, 2013 with a chapter in: Caribbean Healing Traditions: Implications for Health and Mental Health.
As a psychologist she believes that patients should be treated with respect and compassion with the assumption that they know themselves best. She believes clients should be empowered to find their own answers with a “little push.” Her job is to gently guide her patients to access their own strength and acquire skills needed to replace ineffective behaviors with effective ones. Dr. Méance is flexible when choosing which therapeutic approach to use in a particular situation. She is well versed in several types of therapeutic approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is a Rogerian at heart, which means she believes in using “Unconditional Positive Regard” in treating all clients regardless of the therapeutic approach being used.
