Dr. Emily Johnson is a licensed psychologist (PY 10063). She earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology (Magna Cum Laude with Honors) from Florida State University in 1995. As an undergraduate, Dr. Johnson was a member of several honor societies including Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Kappa and The Golden Key National Honor Society. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Florida in 2001 where she was awarded several honors including the Scientist-Practitioner Award, Excellence in Psychological Research Award and Excellence in Psychological Assessment Award.
After graduate school she completed a one year clinical internship at the Yale-affiliated Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Haven, CT. Dr. Johnson then completed a 2 year Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida. In 2004, Dr. Johnson opened a private practice in psychology in Central Florida where she worked with school-age children, adolescents and adults on a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, stress management, grief and trauma.
Dr. Johnson has published scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of chronic pain and gender differences in pain perception. She is a member of the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Johnson’s style is one of empathy and acceptance. While adhering to a Cognitive-Behavioral framework in therapy, she also incorporates components of Client-Centered Therapy.
In her free time, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with her family, watching her sons play sports, working out at her local CrossFit gym, and reading fiction and non-fiction.
