Dr Huss received her psychology undergraduate degree at Clemson University. She earned her master’s in clinical psychology from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC and her doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Kentucky.
She completed her internship at Cherokee Health Systems in Knoxville, Tennessee and her postdoctoral residency in a private practice in Lexington, Kentucky. After living and working in Lexington, KY for just over 10 years, she and her family moved back home to Columbia in 2015. She started her own private practice Thrive Anxiety and Wellness in 2021.
Dr. Huss, enjoys working with all ages from infants to adults who struggle with a wide range of concerns. In particular, she specializes in working with individuals with anxiety, OCD, depression, stress, and chronic medical conditions such as headaches, pain (including back, neck, and jaw pain), sleep problems, and stomach problems. She loves parent coaching for infants and toddlers including sleep training and working with tantrums and separation anxiety.
Dr. Huss has previously worked in medical settings, inpatient hospitals, community mental health centers, university counseling centers, and private practice. Her primary approach to treatment is cognitive behavioral, but also includes other approaches based on the individual, goals of treatment, and research including acceptance based approaches (ACT), exposure response prevention, DBT, family systems, and interpersonal therapy. She utilizes biofeedback to help with pain management, anxiety, and stress.
Dr. Huss’s underlying goal as a clinician is to help individuals learn strategies to improve their relationships, job/school performance, make behavior changes, and reach their own personal goals with the individual taking an active role in the treatment.
