Dr. Gavel is a licensed psychologist practicing at Southern Behavioral Medicine Associates in Hattiesburg, MS. He offers a variety of specialized services for the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic mental health conditions including trauma, anxiety & panic, depression, addiction, psychosis, and interpersonal problems. He is trained and experienced with cognitive behavioral therapy, prolonged exposure, mindfulness, and other research-supported treatments to help patients identify and overcome the challenges of mental health symptoms. Dr. Gavel is trained in advanced psychological testing for a variety of complex and unique needs and offers forensic & medical evaluations according to best practices. Specialized evaluations include presurgical screenings, opioid risk, fitness for duty, forensic disability, differential diagnosis, learning and developmental disorders, adoption, custody, court ordered, and immigration. Dr. Gavel earned his doctorate and masters degrees in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. He completed his doctoral residency at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC, where he trained in the delivery of PTSD treatment and other specialized services for military veterans. He completed post-doctoral fellowship training in health and pain psychology at Southern Behavioral Medicine Associates.
