People come to me mainly for help with trauma, depression and recovering from divorce. Colleagues often refer men to me who want to learn how to establish a healthy, balanced relationship with their emotions and more fulfilling relationships with the people they care about.
No matter the reason someone finds me, everyone is suffering and wants to feel better and live more meaningful lives. They find that painful experiences (either from their past, or their current situation) are disrupting their lives and preventing them from being their best selves. My job is to help them find the way through their pain, healing it as we go, and returning them to functioning as their best self. I am a partner on the journey, someone who facilitates the process while absolutely respecting each individual person I'm working with.
People who enjoy working with me are looking for a therapist who is not afraid to dig into their emotional life and actively help them heal their struggles. They want someone who isn't going to give them a bunch of advice, but walk the path forward with them (while still guiding the process). They want to feel less alone along the way - feeling fully supported by me. They want an active therapy that doesn't involve worksheets or "one size fits all" approaches.
I believe therapy should be effective, so I use the best techniques I know that are informed by research on the process of changing emotions. But more importantly, I use a process called Feedback Informed Treatment that allows me to ensure that I'm giving each client a good experience in therapy. That means I use a brief questionnaire at the beginning and end of each session to make sure we're making progress and to keep the therapeutic relationship on track. This process allows me to adjust what we're doing to each client so we find the best way to work for you.
