I use the tools of psychotherapy to help you grow and flourish amid life’s pain and messiness, and thus to explore who you are and who you want to become. Although it is often an awareness of personal limitations that brings people to therapy, I trust that you also come with strengths, including an ability to struggle with and resolve many of the issues that brought you to therapy. It is my goal to help you discover and use your strengths to enhance emotional health and to promote wellbeing.
I have over 30 years of experience providing individual therapy to adults of varying ages, races, religious beliefs (or lack thereof), and sexual orientations. I regularly incorporate family therapy into my work, sometimes including family members in sessions, but also helping individual clients to implement changes that allow them to respond to family issues in healthier ways. I am invested in helping you identify and deal with some of the harder aspects of life that may keep you from gaining deeper levels of fulfillment and self-respect and authentic relationships with others. Specialty areas include
• Mental health concerns, such as anxiety and depression
• Relationship issues
• Personal identity and growth
• Healthy approaches to grief and loss.
About half of my practice is providing therapy to couples who are struggling with aspects of their relationship and wish to make changes. I have completed Levels 1 and 2 and 3 trainings in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and use GMCT in my therapy work. Areas of focus in couples counseling may include the following:
• Adjusting to transitions and losses
• Managing dual-career pressures
• Recovering from an extramarital affair
• Negotiating conflict.
