Dr. Berghoff is a licensed clinical psychologist, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Disaster Mental Health Institute at the University of South Dakota (USD), and is director of the Behavior, Emotion Regulation, &
Treatments for Health & Anxiety Lab. He received his Ph.D. from the University at Albany, State University of New York in 2015, followed by one year postdoctoral fellowships in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toledo. He specializes in the treatment of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and borderline personality disorder. He employs a range of acceptance-based behavior therapies (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and cognitive behavior therapies (e.g., Prolonged Exposure; Exposure and Response Prevention) in his clinical work. Dr. Berghoff supervises graduate student clinical work at the Psychological Services Center in the USD Department of Psychology, which uses a sliding-scale fee schedule. In addition, Dr. Berghoff is a certified Prolonged Exposure Consultant and provides consultation services to other professionals seeking to improve their skill treating PTSD.
