Dr. Pennington conducts comprehensive and individualized psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Common referral questions are related to learning disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), giftedness, test and college accommodations, intellectual disabilities, learning styles, substance abuse, brain injuries, and psychological problems. When working with therapy clients, Dr. Pennington is passionate about working with adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, emotion dysregulation, anxiety, and trauma. Her goal is to help clients learn and practice skills to manage their emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and enhance their sense of self-efficacy. Dr. Pennington’s therapeutic orientation is rooted in cognitive-behavioral principles and incorporates in aspects of dialectical-behavior therapy, mindfulness, interpersonal therapy, and motivational interviewing. In all of her work, she takes a collaborative approach to ensure that quality services that are tailored to individual needs. Dr. Pennington earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She then completed her predoctoral internship at Travis County Juvenile Probation Department in Austin, Texas, where she conducted forensic assessments and provided therapy to youth in detention and residential placements. After graduation, Dr. Pennington completed her post-doctoral work at Travis County Community Justice Services in Austin, Texas, providing psychological assessments for the court, consultation for adult probation and diversion courts, supervision of masters level clinicians, and assisting with program development at a residential substance abuse treatment center. Dr. Pennington’s clinical experience also includes working at a community mental health clinic, a post-acute neurorehabilitation center, and an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
