Dr. Carlos I. Pérez Benítez serves as the Director of the Miami Center for Cognitive Therapy and is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Miller School of Medicine. From 2009 to 2014, he was an Assistant Research Professor in the Departments of Educational and Psychological Studies, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Miami. Dr. Pérez Benítez earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University in 2004. He completed his clinical internship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, NY, and a postdoctoral clinical research fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University in Providence, RI, where he later became an Assistant Professor (Research) in Psychiatry. A licensed clinical psychologist in Florida and a diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, Dr. Pérez Benítez has 30 years of experience providing psychological evaluations and interventions for children, adults, and the elderly. His clinical expertise encompasses trauma, depression, anxiety, developmental disorders, psychosis, neurological conditions (e.g., stroke), and chronic medical conditions. He offers individual, family, and couple therapies, as well as specialized evaluations for gifted programs, psychoeducational needs, immigration services, and surgical procedures. Dr. Pérez Benítez has extensive experience in the development, diagnosis, and treatment of anxiety disorders. Currently, he is designing behavioral intervention programs for neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder and ADHD in children. His research interests focus on developing culturally tailored psychosocial interventions.
