Professor Dr. Brenda K. Wiederhold, Ph.D., MBA, BCB, BCN is Co-Founder of the Virtual Reality Medical Center (VRMC). She is registered as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with California Board of Psychology, Belgian Commission des Psychologues & Virginia Boards of Psychology with a doctorate in Clinical Health Psychology, and Board Certification in Biofeedback & Neurofeedback. She currently maintains a private practice & is on the Medical Staff at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Her career includes strategic consulting for United Healthcare, serving as an Innovation Expert for the European Commission & serving as Senior Behavioral Healthcare Consultant for U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) under the Intergovernmental Personnel Act. A U.S. citizen, she has lived & worked in Asia, Switzerland, Austria & Belgium.
Dr. Wiederhold works to inform & educate policymakers, funding agencies, world leaders, the scientific community & general public about the transformative impact technology can have on healthcare.
She is Founder of Interactive Media Institute, a 501c3 non-profit; Visiting Professor at the Catholic University in Milan. Founder of International CyberPsychology, CyberTherapy, & Social Networking Conference (CYPSY), in its 28th year, & Editor-in-Chief of MedLine-indexed CyberPsychology, Behavior & Social Networking Journal (CYBER) published by Mary Ann Liebert Publishers. With over 350 scientific publications & 19 books, she is recognized as an international leader in prevention & treatment of stress-related disorders, anxiety & phobias with VR exposure, biofeedback & CBT & has conducted over 10,000 VR therapy sessions. In 1996 she conducted the 1st randomised controlled clinical trial with VR to treat fear of flying & in 2006 she conducted the 1st VR randomised controlled clinical trial to treat Iraq & Afghanistan war veterans. She has given invited lectures in 29 countries.
