I graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University in 1984 with a BA in Women's Studies and Literature. After college I worked for many fruitful years in a well-baby mother-infant program. I deeply enjoyed learning about early attachment, infant development and mother-infant dynamics. During that time I also completed a Master's degree in General Psychology at CUNY. At CUNY, I was very lucky to work as a research assistant on a longitudinal study of mother-infant attachment and development. That experience continues to inform my clinical work today.
After 8 years of working with mothers, infants and young children, I decided to pursue a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at L.I.U., Brooklyn. The rigorous academic work and intensive clinical training were both very rewarding. For my dissertation I conducted my own research on adult attachment patterns and patterns of facial affect. After graduating with my Ph.D, I was offered a Post-Doctoral fellowship at the SUNY Downstate Anxiety Disorders Clinic. While there I trained in CBT for all anxiety disorders and did statistical analyses of data we gathered on anxiety prevalence in the local community.
I have loved teaching throughout my career, including undergraduate lecture courses in psychology, assistant teaching for graduate courses in statistics and assessment, CBT courses for medical students and clinical supervision of medical students, psychology interns and Ph.D. candidates.
My private practice is diverse and multi-faceted. Much of my work with patients has focused on long-term psychodynamic work, with a smaller portion reserved for short-term anxiety work. Currently, I especially enjoy working with people who are grappling with OCD, Phobias and Post-Partum Anxiety.
