I was formerly a police officer (20 years) and my doctoral research focused on trauma with police officers. This also led to a book on the topic (After the Smoke Clears: Surviving the Police Shooting, 2nd Edition). During my time in practice I have worked in a variety of settings and handled a diverse caseload. My current specialty area is working with first responders (police/fire/EMS/medical/military). My earlier experiences and training provide some unique insights into this area and have provided some helpful perspectives. I have been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a recognized treatment for trauma and I focus on helping individuals resolve issues related to many types of trauma including childhood, sexual, or job related. Additionally to the EMDR I use CBT and solution focused approaches to helping clients resolve issues and change thinking patterns that lead to continued problems. My caseload is not specific to first-responders--I help many others with similar issues (trauma) as well as issues such as depression, anxiety, and anger. Email is the best way to contact me with any questions.
